About Us

St. John's Lutheran School is all about Christian education. The education we offer goes beyond religion class and chapel. It goes beyond the classes that are taught throughout the school day or the activities that are also a part of the education. Rather, the education that our students receive is one that is centered on Christ – everything we do centers on Him.

St. John's Lutheran School

St. John's is a Christian grade school located in the southeast end of Sleepy Eye, MN. It serves families by offering a Christian education from Preschool to 8th grade.  With a 133 year history (1885-2019) in the area, St. John's has become an established part of the Sleepy Eye community. In addition, students also come from the Springfield, Morgan, and Sanborn area. Please call and ask for information on how we can serve you.

The academic education of God's children is the framework around which St. John's is built. Scripture tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and God's Word colors every academic endeavor. A large percentage of our graduates pursue a Lutheran secondary education. All of our classes offer a solid foundation according to the MN state standards.

Admission Policy

St. John's Lutheran School welcomes inquiries from any family interested in a Christian education for their children. In addition, we learn from God's Word “that God does not show favoritism but accepts people from every nation who fear Him” (Acts 10:34-35). Therefore, St. John's Lutheran School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally made available to all students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs.

Statement of Ownership

St. John's Lutheran School is owned and operated by St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church and is in fellowship with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), which shares a common confessional stance and practice.

Busing is offered for K-8 students who live in District #84. Buses from the various routes will deliver our students to a transfer point at the public school or bring them directly to St. John's. A District #84 bus will pick up all students at St. John's at the end of the school day and make the transfer over to the public school for assigned routes.
